Success! The Spanish Government avoids bailout bullfighting!
The covid-19 crisis has hit bullfighting hard. This has made this cruel industry beg for a bailout from the Spanish Government. "We needs to be protected and subsidized as the rest of the spanish culture. Bullfighting is the second largest VAT entry in the country with more than 100 million euros in the last year", they allege.
These are the numbers they are presenting to the Ministry of Culture, in order to influence their decision to grant big public money to save the bullfighting.... but we took action to prevent them from succeeding in their claims. Our activists sent more than 20,000 mails to the authorities and we have won the first battle! The Spanish Government will help musicians, theater, literature, cinema... but no a penny for the bullfighting!
Even though, we cannot let our guard down. The bullfighting industry are sending letters and maintaining contact with high-ranking politicians and institutions, and also they are contacting the Ministry of Agriculture to seek for more bailouts.
